Kick-off Meeting: Laying the foundations of the FRIDA Project in Barcelona

16th May 2026

On 20th and 21st April, the FRIDA Project held the first in-person Kick-off Meeting at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), a fundamental milestone that brought all consortium partners together in person for the first time.

The event was opened by Dr. Marta Bertrán, Dean of the Faculty of Education (UAB), and Dr. Esther Zapater, General Secretary (UAB), as well as the FRIDA project coordinators, Dr. Josep Maria Sanahuja and Dr. Mario Montero (UAB-CERSIN).

This meeting not only served as a space for introduction and mutual acquaintance among the professionals and academics in the network but also established a clear roadmap for the project’s ambitious goals.

Technical Progress: The conceptual framework of Work Package 2

The working session helped to make progress on Work Package 2: Fundamental rights and agency for girls and women with disabilities from culturally minoritised groups. Under the leadership of Dr. Paola Parolari from the Università degli Studi di Brescia (UNIBS), partners worked together on defining the terminological dictionary and the analysis matrix, essential tools for unifying concepts and approaches.

Strategic Planning: Towards the implementation phases

The meeting also served as a stage for projecting future work on the central work packages for research development:

    · Work Package 3: Priorities for girls and women with disabilities from culturally minoritised groups

→ Led by the Pädagogische Hochschule Steiermark (PHSt)

    · Work Package 4: Community-based support: barriers and levers in community services

→Led by Uniwersytet Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu (UMK)

    · Work Package 5: Good practices in inclusive research

→Led by the Universidad de Cantabria (UC)

To close the sessions, a specific space was dedicated to the project’s operational structure. The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), as the lead institution and consortium coordinator, headed the sessions on:

    · Work Package 7: Training, communication, and dissemination

    · Work Package 8: Management and networking

This Kick-off Meeting concluded with a strong commitment from all partner institutions, consolidating a multidisciplinary team ready to transform the FRIDA Project objectives into tangible realities for inclusion.
